How to Activate Naira (₦) Symbol on Android Keyboard

The Naira (₦) symbol is essential for anyone in Nigeria who frequently deals with currency-related content. However, it’s not always straightforward to access the Naira symbol on Android keyboards. Here’s a guide on how to activate and use the Naira symbol on your Android device.

How to Activate Naira (₦) Symbol on Android Keyboard

Method 1: Using Gboard (Google Keyboard)

If you’re using Gboard (the Google Keyboard), you may be able to access the Naira symbol through its symbols menu. Here’s how:

  1. Install or Update Gboard:
    • Download or update Gboard from the Google Play Store if you haven’t done so already.
  2. Open Any Text-Editing App:
    • Open any app where you can type, such as your messaging app or notes.
  3. Switch to Symbols:
    • Tap the “?123” key on the keyboard to switch to the symbols menu.
  4. Find the Naira Symbol (₦):
    • Press and hold the dollar symbol ($) or currency symbol on the keyboard. This action usually opens a small pop-up menu showing other currency symbols.
    • In the menu, look for the Naira symbol (₦). Slide your finger to it, and release to select it.
  5. Use It Anytime:
    • Once accessed, you can keep using the Naira symbol in any app on your Android device.

Note: If you don’t see the Naira symbol after long-pressing the currency key, proceed to the next method.

Method 2: Changing Your Language to English (Nigeria) in Gboard

Changing the language setting in Gboard to English (Nigeria) can make the Naira symbol more accessible. Follow these steps:

  1. Open Gboard Settings:
    • Go to Settings > System > Languages & input > On-screen keyboard > Gboard.
  2. Add Language:
    • Select Languages and tap Add keyboard. Choose English (Nigeria) from the list of languages.
  3. Access the Naira Symbol:
    • After enabling English (Nigeria) as one of your language settings, go to any text field and select English (Nigeria) as the active language.
    • Now, follow the same steps as in Method 1 to locate the Naira symbol.

Method 3: Using SwiftKey Keyboard

If you prefer Microsoft’s SwiftKey Keyboard, it also offers the Naira symbol in a similar way.

  1. Download or Update SwiftKey:
    • Install or update the SwiftKey keyboard from the Google Play Store.
  2. Open a Text Field:
    • Go to any app where you can type and activate the SwiftKey keyboard.
  3. Switch to Symbols:
    • Tap the “123” key to open the symbols menu.
  4. Find the Naira Symbol (₦):
    • Look for the currency symbol key, usually marked as “$”.
    • Long-press this key, and a menu of currency symbols will appear. Slide your finger over to the Naira (₦) symbol and release to select it.

Method 4: Using a Custom Shortcut (If Your Keyboard Doesn’t Support Naira Symbol)

If your keyboard does not support the Naira symbol, you can create a custom shortcut that will allow you to type it quickly.

  1. Copy the Naira Symbol (₦):
    • Copy the symbol from this guide (₦) to your clipboard.
  2. Open Keyboard Settings:
    • Go to Settings > System > Languages & input > Personal dictionary > All languages.
  3. Add a Custom Shortcut:
    • Tap on Add (+) to create a new shortcut.
    • Paste the Naira symbol (₦) in the Phrase field.
    • In the Shortcut field, create an easy-to-remember keyword, such as “nira” or “naira.”
  4. Use the Shortcut:
    • Now, whenever you type the shortcut (e.g., “nira”), the Naira symbol will appear as a suggestion. Simply tap it to insert the symbol.

Method 5: Third-Party Apps with Currency Symbols

If none of the previous methods work, you can download apps dedicated to providing currency symbols:

  1. Download a Currency Symbol App:
    • Look for currency symbol apps like Symbols Keyboard or Unicode Pad in the Google Play Store.
  2. Copy the Naira Symbol:
    • Open the app and find the Naira symbol.
    • Copy it to your clipboard, and paste it whenever you need to use it.
