If you need a replacement for your MTN Mobile Solar DC to AC Inverter, you’ve come to the right place. My inverter recently burnt out, and while I was waiting weeks for MTN to respond, I decided to look for an alternative. I found a different DC to AC inverter that works well.
Many of you may have heard about the new MTN service in partnership with Lumos Mobile Solar Electricity, which has recently been introduced in Nigeria. This service allows you to enjoy 24/7 electricity generated from solar energy. If you want to learn more about MTN Mobile Solar Electricity, you can read about it here: MTN Mobile Electricity Powered by Lumos (See Info).
Some people refer to it as “pay as you go” MTN Mobile Solar Electricity because you are required to… because you are required to… because you are required to… because you are required to… because you are required to… because you are required to…to be paid weekly, monthly, yearly subscriptions before you can be able to use MTN mobile solar Electricity and that is why some people call it pay as you go, you can see their subscription plans here.
I was one of the first customers to invest in MTN’s solar mobile electricity service to power my laptop 24/7. I spent over 46,000 naira for the initial payment, which included a three-month subscription and installation fees. However, I noticed that they currently have a promotional offer, and new customers can start for less than what I paid.
A few weeks ago, I began to regret my decision to pay for MTN’s solar mobile electricity. My DC to AC inverter burned out, and when I reached out for help, I was informed that I needed to visit their office for a replacement. They explained that maintenance or any replacements would be handled by them until after five years, when the system would fully belong to me.
When I visited the MTN office to replace my inverter, I was informed that there were no inverters available and that they would contact me once one becomes available. As seen in the image above, the small black inverter labeled as essential is not being provided by MTN or Lumos to their customers. To date, I have not received the inverter. Whenever I try to reach customer care, they simply tell me to exercise patience, but offer no further assistance.
Without the DC to AC inverter, I cannot utilize the MTN solar mobile electricity efficiently; I can only power a few bulbs or charge my phone. This lack of functionality leads to a cost of around N4,500 every month. The inverter is crucial because it connects extension sockets, allowing me to plug in devices like my TV, laptops, and fans. Since I paid for this service with the intention of powering my laptop, the fact that the MTN solar mobile electricity has been useless to me for almost two weeks is frustrating, especially since my subscription is still ongoing.
In my search for a solution, I went to the market looking for a replacement inverter for the MTN solar system, but was unable to find one. I then decided to search online and discovered an alternative replacement on Jumia that is even stronger and more reliable than the original inverter that came with the MTN Lumos solar system.
The product is called the Universal 150W Car Power Inverter, and I believe it is compatible with the MTN solar system. It can be used to charge your phone and connect laptops in your car.
According to the seller, this inverter converts DC 12V to AC 220V, similar to the MTN solar system, and it features a USB output of DC 5V. This product is capable of charging your phones, laptops, and other appliances, and it is more powerful and durable than the 75W inverter.
The rated output power is 150W, making it suitable for a wide range of electrical devices, including mobile phones, TVs, and fans. It can easily handle a resistive load of 150W as well as an inductive load of the same power. There are no limitations on the types of 150W power loads it can support.
The inverter utilizes intelligent SCM solutions, providing stable output with minimal voltage frequency error, along with excellent loading capacity and protective features.
Personally, I have been using the 150W inverter for over two years, and I can confirm that it is more powerful and durable compared to the inverters provided by MTN. While MTN offers a free inverter that you can wait for, I have had two of their inverters fail on me, whereas the 150W inverter has consistently performed well.

The price of the Universal 150W Car Power Inverter is between N5,000 – 7,000
